Engagement Season! | Metro Detroit Engagement Photographer

Could it be? Is spring finally on the horizon?! God, I hope so. The sunshine is making me think about engagement sessions! I am absolutely in love with engagement sessions. In fact, they are included in each and every one of my wedding packages. They are so important to your wedding day photography on so many levels. Read on and find some of my insider tips!

You trial run everything on your wedding day, your hair and make up, your ceremony, why wouldn’t you trial run one of the most important parts of your wedding day: your photos! Engagement sessions give me and you an opportunity to see each other in action. We get to know each other more so we are comfortable with each other on your wedding day. You will also get an idea of how I work. I hear all the time “we don’t know what we are doing… help!” I don’t want you feeling uncomfortable and nervous on your wedding day with my camera – lets get those nerves out early so we can be sure to capture the most real moments on your wedding day.

I like to photograph my engagement sessions on the weekdays about 1-2 hours before sunset. The light is just right and on a sunny day we can be sure to capture some of my favorite things: dreamy light, sun flare, a little bit of natural back light and some pretty breath taking sunsets.

Location is pretty important. I like to try and find a spot that is special to you and your fiance. I’ve been all over, U of M, Michigan State, Harsens Island, Bowling Green University, as well as different parks and downtown areas that have special meanings. I’m more than happy to travel for your session. Depending on some locations, there is a small fee involved but most locations don’t cost extra.

I often get asked… what should we wear? I say stick to 1-2 outfits. Something casual and then something dressier. Please, for the love of all things pretty, do not show up in jeans and white t-shirts or matching sweaters. It’s just not cute. Coordinate your outfits so they compliment each other. If you are still at a loss on what to wear, you’re in luck! I work closely with a stylist and she can help you look your best. Style by Erin Lucas is simply amazing. She has helped me out in so many ways. I swear, if it weren’t for her I’d be rocking a sweatshirt and jeans every day. Erin is super easy to work with and will even shop with you so you know exactly what to pick up. Let her know I sent you! Metro Detroit Enagement Photographer 5

I also suggest you get your hair and make-up done for your engagement session. You’d be surprised at what a big difference it will make in your photos. You want to make sure your make up is just a little heavier than you normally wear it. I work with quite a few make up artists and hair stylists, if you are looking for someone, let me know, I’ll be happy to sed you to some very talented friends of mine.
