Caitlin and Corey’s Gem Theatre wedding was my first wedding of 2020 and really the first wedding since I’ve taken a step back from shooting weddings as intensely as I have been the last 10 years. It was a good break, I still got to capture a handful of love stories and I’m back feeling more ready than ever before. 2020 is turning out to be a full season and it all started with these two in the beginning of January.
The first time I met Caitlin and Corey was on their wedding day. We hit it off right away – just like I knew we would. We started off at their apartment right in the heart of mid-town on Woodward. They decided to get ready at the Gem because after all, it is winter in Detroit and it can get a little messy. I love the dramatic window light inside the Century Theatre at the Gem – it was the perfect backdrop for getting ready. I’ve long dreamed of a beautiful bride walking down the Century stairs to meet her forever so this was the perfect backdrop for their first look. After, we headed to some of Caitlin and Corey’s favorite spots in the city for pictures before meeting up with the bridal party and family back at the Gem.
Their ceremony was held over looking the city as the sun set on Detroit and it was really something beautiful. Both Caitlin and Corey’s moms read special passages and their brother in law married them. You could feel the love and warmth radiating from each and every guest. We were so lucky to be there to capture it. After everything was official, the party kicked off and it was so much fun.
Caitlin + Corey, thank you so much for trusting me to capture your wedding and for trusting me to make magical images for you to cherish forever. I’m so happy I got to be there on your best day ever!
